Newton’s Laws of Motion
You have probably already learned about Newton’s Laws of Motion, which apply to all motion in the universe. Newton published these laws in in 1687 in his book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (“Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy”), usually called Principia. Note that what we call Newton’s first law of motion was actually discovered by Galileo. The reason we call it Newton’s first law of motion is simply because it was the first of the three laws that Newton enumerated in his book.
The following video offers a brief review of Newton’s laws of motion, along with examples of how they apply.
